About BUILT BY GIRLS

BUILT BY GIRLS prepares the next generation of young women to step boldly into careers powered by technology through 1:1 mentorship, community, and practical resources. As the Brand Marketing Lead, my role was to be the brand shepherd and oversee all marketing initiatives.

My proudest moments:

Build out the content guides and lifecycle email campaigns that powers our mentorship program (“WAVE”) where we’ve paired over 11,000+ students to professionals in tech.

Established the new brand strategy and visual look & feel to solidify our position in the tech space. Developed brand voice and social playbooks to guide content and messaging.

Co-led the virtual BUILT BY GIRLS Summit in 2020 where we garnered 2,000 RSVPs with a speaker lineup that included Amani Al-Khatahtbeh, Amanda Seales, Gaby Dunn, Soledad O’Brien and more.

Project: The Summit Experience

In 2019, we brought together hundreds of young women and non-binary students into one room for the inaugural BUILT BY GIRLS Summit. Together, we talked about overcoming imposter syndrome, budgeting (a scary word for a beautiful thing), the power of writing down your goals, nailing the interview, how to show up authentically at work, and so much more. Here’s a video recap of the event!

My role for the Summit was to define the creative vision and direction for this one-day experience. In early ideation, we knew visuals had to stay true to the brand identity while also channeling the Summit theme of “illuminate.” We also envisioned the space to be a true reflection of our Gen Z audience: vibrant, playful, and full of personality. Think: the opposite of a stuffy business attire conference.

I managed creative for all the production (stage design, signage, decoration), event handout, swag, and online promotions. Thank you to the talented designer, Lacy Kuhn, for the graphic design and the Crush Studio team for bringing it all to life.

Project: International Women’s Day Campaign

In less than 6 months, I strategized and executed BUILT BY GIRLS’ biggest influencer campaign to date: In A World BUILT BY GIRLS. In this campaign, we reimagine what the world would look like if women had a fair say from Day 1. We paired young women with female trailblazers to directly address the lack of diversity and inclusion in the tech industry, the wage gap, trans issues, imposter syndrome, and more.

We secured a stellar line-up of female leaders including Amani Al-Khatahtbeh, Arlan Hamilton, and Angelica Ross. The campaign garnered over 368,000 video views across BUILT BY GIRLS YouTube, social channels, and on the AOL.com homepage.

Project: ‘Make My Case’ Design Competition

In partnership with Verizon and Speck, BUILT BY GIRLS hosted Make My Case, a phone case competition where 2 winners will win a $5,000 scholarship and have their original designs printed on phone cases sold in Verizon retail + online stores nationwide.

We announced the two winning designs on International Day of the Girl. The two winning case designers, Dyllen Nellis and Shannon Li, were selected out of a pool of more than 150 entries. Their designs will be released as limited-edition prints and sold online here.
